![]() In other words, unless someone has shipped a game, their ability to handle a game soundtrack often isn't proven through having free-floating good music out there. The professional, on the other hand, has to be able to deal with every single thing a game requires, which often means stepping outside one's comfort zone. ![]() Be it covering/remixing/arranging a few favorite tracks from a franchise, composing stuff in a given mood or setting. The hobbyist gets to choose what music he wants to work on. And that's where you start seeing the division between the hobbyist and the professional. A developer will more often prioritize reliability over how great something sounds. Having worked in the industry a fair bit though, let me say that a portfolio of songs really doesn't say much at this point. Sorry for the bump, but I believe I do have something meaningful to add to the discussion here, especially with the last post's callout (thanks, btw) ![]() Stumbled on this thread googling Karl for something else. But I trust that Sonic Mania is going to have a kickass soundtrack nonetheless from what's been heard. One of the recent most popular fan games that's come from the Sonic community, Sonic After The Sequel, which has a fucking AMAZING soundtrack, was made by a laundry list of incredible composers such as Funk Fiction, DJ Max-E and our very own NeoGAF moderator Falk. While I'd say his composition style leans more towards a sort of Richard Jacques circa Sega Saturn-era OST rather than Genesis chiptunes, I'm pretty sure that's the kind of vibe Christian Whitehead wanted from the project in general.Īdmittedly I am somewhat surprised that Sonic Mania only has one lead composer. Tee Lopes was a great and fairly easy choice since much like everyone involved in Mania he's had a very heavy hand within the Sonic fan community more notably he was involved with PagodaWest back when they were working on the Sonic 2 HD fan project. You can learn more about the skin and download it here. There are a lot of good "Sonic-styled" composers they could have gone with. I spent a lot of time and work really hard on this, so let me know what you think! The Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles Head was done in illustrator. Christian Whitehead was redrawn because the original design was very seizure inducing. The only things that I didn’t redraw were some of the animations for the projector that use the developer logos and intro for the game. To produce a much crisper look then just using them straight from the videos. There is all kinds of animations like the clouds moving, or lights glowing, to the projector playing different animations that react to the music.Īll the sprites for this skin have been redrawn by myself! I used the debut, and various game play videos to collect the sprites to use, then redrew them in a much lower resolution. I felt like it needed to dance! This whole project was built around getting that Van to dance! From there, I designed how all the windows and standard features would be reskinned. Ineedmorcowbell has this to say about the project:Īfter watching game play of Sonic Mania’s Studiopolis Zone, and seeing the Hornet Van. What Ineedmorcowbell’s skin does is turn the entire player into Studiopolis Zone. If you had a computer between 1997 and now, chances are you downloaded this program and still have it on your machine. Initially released in 1997, Winamp is a freemium media player for Windows, Android, and macOS. ![]() Sonic Mania is a game that embraces old school aesthetics, so it is fitting that fellow SEGA and Sonic fan Ineedmorcowbell created a Sonic Mania skin for the old school program Winamp. ![]()
